Habitat: 

Native to South America, specifically Chile and Argentina. Some species are found in Australia and New Guinea.

Flowering Season:

Flowers in spring to early summer.

Fruiting Season:

Cones mature after 1-2 years following pollination.

Climate Conditions:

Thrives in cool, temperate climates with temperatures between 10°C to 20°C (50°F to 68°F).  Prefers moderate rainfall, often found in areas with annual precipitation ranging from 1,000 to 2,000 mm.

Seed Propagation:

Mainly propagated by seeds. Seeds require a cold stratification period (cold treatment) to germinate, which can take several months.

Parts Used:

Wood: The wood is valuable, used in construction, furniture, and cabinetry.

Seeds: The seeds (pine nuts) of some species are edible and can be used in cooking.

Oil: The seeds can also be pressed for oil.
